An architect and environmental researcher currently living in County Down, Northern Ireland, Prof. Tom Woolley B.Arch., PhD is a highly respected former Professor of Architecture at Queen’s University Belfast, a role he held for sixteen years. Tom is also a visiting Professor at Anglia Ruskin University and at the Centre for Alternative Technology.

Tom chaired the Northern Ireland Building Regulations Advisory Committee for 4 years, was on the board of the Chartered Institute of Housing, is currently a member of the Ministerial Advisory Committee and part of the UK Indoor Environment group and the Fuel Poverty Research Network.

Tom is internationally known for his work on sustainable architecture and construction and has published widely on construction, planning, housing, green architecture and healthy buildings, including the Green Building Handbook, Natural Building, Hemp and Lime Construction and Low Impact Building. He has carried out a number of studies investigating ways to improve indoor air quality.  His latest book, published by Routledge, is “Building Materials, Health and Indoor Air Quality”. Tom has spoken at numerous conferences and workshops around the world including Canada, South Africa, Malaysia, Holland, Austria, Denmark, Sweden and Poland.

Tom brings with him extensive experience in working with local authorities, the voluntary and business sector in Scotland, Northern Ireland and London and in translating findings into government policy and transitioning research into industry.
