News from other sitesA guide for local government in England on adopting the Healthy Homes Principles
The Town and Country Planning Association (TCPA) has developed a technical guide; the ‘Healthy Homes Principle’ as a first step for Local Authorities to address poor quality housing. Part of the Campaign for Healthy Homes, the guide details the reasons and methods for integrating the Healthy Homes Principle into local policies and practices. Extending beyond basic building regulations, the guide provides clear, adaptable strategies tailored to local contexts.
1 in 10 people (over 6 million) are living in poor quality housing and neighbourhoods. Strong evidence shows that healthy homes are essential for happy and healthy lives. Local Councils play a crucial role in this issue, as they face increasing costs from the financial burden associated with inadequate housing. They also possess the determination necessary to instigate meaningful change for healthier living conditions.
