On Thursday 27th February the Clean Air Programme will be co-badging a local authority event for local authority councillors from across Hertfordshire. The day will feature a keynote presentation from Dr Gary Fuller one of the programmes three UKRI Clean Air Champions.
A section of research findings and key take home messages from a range of Clean Air Programme and wider research projects will be featured on the day including:
- Sources of indoor air pollution – Zaheer Nassar
- Health risks of gas cooking – Suzanne Bartington (UKRI Clean Air Champion)
- Preventing future pandemics – Bruno Fraga
- Healthy net zero homes – Zongbo Shi
- Domestic wood burning – John Casey
Research from within Hertfordshire will also be featured showcasing this year’s school ventilation project, where air purifiers were installed in every classroom within 63 primary school providing cleaner air every school day to over 16,000 children. Sam Wood of ICL will be presenting some early evaluation data from this partnership project between the council and the SAMHE project.
The day will also feature details of work going on across the county where the programme’s East of England regional Clean Air Champion Matt Clark leads the county council’s cleaner air activity. It will feature information on how we are creating cleaner air for all (past, present and future), what our air quality strategy public engagement has informed us, a workshop on misinformation and communicating cleaner air to the public. Stalls providing information on wider air quality related topic such as the carbon agenda will also provided.
Attendance is by invite only but we expect to capture video footage which will be made available to all in the future to help disseminate the Clean Air Programme research work highlighted on the day. Until then we are pleased to provide a link to last year’s keynote speaker Sir Prof Stephen Holgate.
Thanks go out to all those who have contributed and particularly Suzanne Bartington for coordinating content from a range of academics attending, Gary Fuller for the keynote speech and Emily Clowry from Hertfordshire County Council without whom the event would not have been possible.
